Role-specific CV review

CV Review for Sales Professionals

Sales CVs are brutally simple to assess — either you hit your numbers or you didn't. If your CV doesn't include quota attainment, deal sizes, or revenue figures, hiring managers assume the numbers are bad. Don't make them wonder.

What recruiters are actually looking for

Sales hiring managers look for: quota attainment percentage, average deal size, sales cycle length, vertical expertise, and whether you're a hunter (new business) or farmer (account growth) — or both. Culture fit and communication style are also assessed through how you present yourself on paper.

How to make your CV stand out

Specific advice for your field — not generic tips that apply to everyone.

Lead with your quota attainment

Your headline metric belongs near the top of every role. Format: '127% of quota, FY2023 | £1.4M ARR closed | ACV £38K'. This tells the whole story in one line. Sales managers who see no numbers assume the numbers are embarrassing.

Be explicit about hunter vs. farmer

New business development and account management require different skills. Your CV should make your strength obvious. If you specialise in outbound prospecting and net new logos, say so. If your strength is expansion and renewal, lead with that. Being vague signals you can't do either well.

Name your verticals and ICP

Enterprise SaaS, SMB, financial services, healthcare IT — state where you've sold. Sector expertise accelerates ramp time, and hiring managers specifically search for relevant vertical experience. Include company type, deal size, and buyer persona where possible.

Include tools as searchable keywords

Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong, LinkedIn Sales Navigator — list the tools you use. ATS systems and recruiters search for CRM/sales tech experience. Don't assume it's obvious; make it explicit.

Common mistakes that get CVs rejected

  • No quota attainment figures or revenue numbers

  • Unclear whether role was inbound or outbound, SMB or enterprise

  • Responsibilities listed instead of results ('managed pipeline' vs. 'built pipeline from £0 to £3.2M in 8 months')

  • CRM and sales tools not listed

  • No differentiation between roles — every position reads the same
